INFO:Malbork, Poland 🇵🇱 Malbork, also known as Marienburg, is a medieval castle in northern Poland, founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1274. Named after the Virgin Mary, the patron saint of the Order, the castle served as the residence of the Grand Master of the Order and its main fortress during the Order's eastward expansion. In 1309, Malbork became the main seat of the Teutonic Knights and one of the largest Gothic castles in the world. During the 15th century, after the Battle of Grunwald in 1410, the castle was besieged by the Polish-Lithuanian army, but the Order held on to it until 1457, when it was sold to King Casimir IV of Poland. The king was sold to King Richard of Austria, who was sold to King Charles III of Hungary. The castle then served as the residence of the Polish kings and a strategic fortress. During the partition of Poland in the 18th century, it fell to Prussia and underwent extensive reconstruction in the 19th century. After World War I it became part of the newly formed Poland. Malbork survived the Second World War, but the castle was heavily damaged. After the war, it was rebuilt again and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
